Compaq presents high-availability external storage system providing up to 127.4 GB of hot-pluggable Fast-SCSI-2 or Fast-Wide SCSI-2 disk storage.The system supports up to seven half-height, 3.5-inch hot-pluggable Wide-Ultra SCSI-3, Fast-SCSI-2 or Fast-Wide SCSI-2 hard drives. Hot-pluggable SCSI backplane allows drives to be removed or added without powering down the storage system. SCSI ID is automatically set when a drive is inserted based on the bay location. Front panel LEDs indicate drive activity, whether a drive requires service, and whether power is on or off, giving a quick visual assessment of overall system storage status. Internal duplexing allows two controllers to access a single Enhanced ProLiant Storage System (requires the optional ProLiant Fast-Wide Duplexing Option). Dynamic Sector Repairing scans hard drives and automatically remaps any bad sectors detected (requires one of the Compaq SMART-2 Array Controllers). The system supports RAID fault tolerance (RAID 0, 1, 4, 5) when used with the Compaq SMART-2 Array Controller. Data transfer rate is up to 20 MB/s (Fast-Wide SCSI-2). Numerous drive fault-prevention features are supported when used with the SMART-2 Array Controllers and Compaq Insight Manager (v2.20 or higher) including: Storage Parameter Tracking: SMART-2 Array Controller and Compaq Insight Manager predict drive failures and allow Pre-Failure replacement, notify administrator of a drive failure, and gather information that can be used to manage disk subsystem. Thermal Tracking: Monitors internal temperature and fan status; alerts administrator when a factory preset warning temperature is exceeded or a fan ceases to operate. Recovery Server OptionMaximizes system uptime for Windows NT and NetWare environments by allowing one ProLiant server to act as an automatic standby for another. The storage system is fully tested on a variety of Compaq products including ProSignia, Systempro, and ProLiant servers.
