The rapid growth of the Internet and Internet-enabled applications has led to a rapid increase in the scale of bandwidth required in service provider networks. Gigabit Ethernet has emerged as a crucial technology for enabling high-speed, low-cost network connectivity to deliver Layer 2 or Layer 3 services to in the next generation of Service Provider's network architectures.
