Similar to the E3 port adapters on the Cisco 7000 series, the Cisco 12000 series E3 Line Cards can be used to provide direct customer access or network-to-network connections. In some cases, E3 offers the only high-speed service to remote point-of-presence (POP) and customer installations that can't obtain optical channelized service.
