Cisco is announcing the NP-2T16S network processor module (NPM) for high-density serial applications with the Cisco 4500 and 4700 routers (Cisco 4500, 4500-M, 4700, 4700-M; but not 4000, 4000-M). Already offering the industry's broadest media support for midrange/regional routers, the Cisco 4000 series with a new NP-2T16S NPM adds leading price/port for low-speed sync with the flexibility to integrate async as well.The higher density, lower price per port, and the ability to integrate the async of the NP-2T16S NPM allow the Cisco 4500 and 4700 routers to address three major applications: WAN aggregation, IBM/legacy support and integration, and regional office async integration.
