The rapid growth of the Internet and Internet-enabled applications has led to a substantial increase in the scale and scope of bandwidth provisioned through service provider access networks. While most of today's high-speed WAN access ports are DS-3/E3, increasing bandwidth requirements have generated the need for OC-3c/STM-1 ports into service provider consolidated points of presence (POPs). In addition to customer connectivity, today's service providers need both seamless integration into their revenue-generating server farms and software services such as quality of service (QoS), security, traffic shaping, traffic accounting and billing. Cisco Systems now offers an OC-3c/STM-1 POS Optical Services Module for high-speed, high-density WAN connectivity.The 4-port Packet-over-SONET (POS) Optical Services Module provides the standards-compliant SONET/SDH interface, SONET/STS-3c and SDH/STM-1c framing and signaling overhead. Four MT-RJ fiber ports provide full-duplex operation at 155 Mbps per port.
