The IBM 3490 Magnetic Tape System Enhanced Capability Models F01 and F11 are smaller, lighter weight, yet full-function versions of the 3490 36-track, 1/2-inch cartridge tape family. The 3490 models are designed for users who have large amounts of data to back up and/or limited time for system backup. The 3490 comes in a tabletop Model F01 and rack-mounted Model F11.High capacity and 36-track recording to provide the highest data capacity per cartridge of any 3480/3490 tape format cartridges. With IDRC compaction, capacity can be up to 2.4GB--nearly three times higher than the uncompressed capacity of 3480/3490 cartridges. The increased capacity reduces both the number of cartridges needed and overall storage costs. The long cartridge life of the Enhanced Capacity Cartridge System Tape and high quality of the 3490 "F" models make them an excellent choice to support critical data. Multiple processor architecture increases processing speed because the processors are dedicated to specialized functions. The 3490-Fxx Models have four specialized microprocessors to facilitate drive operation. An 80188 processor controls the host interface functions. A 68000 processor controls buffer operations and two V40 processors control mechanical and user interface functions.
