Businesses with large or rapidly expanding storage requirements often need storage solutions that provide high performance, scalability, and high availability. The Serial Storage Architecture (SSA) adapters for RS/6000 servers, along with IBM serial storage disk systems, offer exceptional performance, scalable storage capacity, and cost-effective data protection for large applications or database servers. These adapters function as building blocks in the IBM Seascape Storage Enterprise Architecture. The SSA adapters for RS/6000 servers conform to ANSI standard X3.131 for the Serial Storage Architecture, enabling users to connect up to 96 disk drives in two loops to the server's PCI and/or MCA bus. Each high-performance SSA loop has a maximum bandwidth of 80 MB per second over standard copper wire, allowing distances of up to 25 meters (82 feet) between devices. When the RAID adapter is used, the drives can be configured in any combination of (2+P) to (15+P) RAID arrays.
