The Catalyst 6000 family 48-port Inline Power 10/100BaseT Ethernet switching module delivers new Fast Ethernet enhancements that will carry customers forward into the new era of multiservice networking.The Catalyst 6000 family brings data, voice, and video integration onto the campus for fully integrated communications on every desktop. Campus multiservice networking, or convergence, provides voice support using the IP network infrastructure rather than the traditional private branch exchange (PBX). This drastically increases the leverage of telephony spending into overall infrastructure spending, reduces capital and operational costs, and opens the environment to innovation by supporting new applications. Cisco is using the Catalyst 6000 family to lead its customers to campus convergence. The first product features to be introduced are Fast Ethernet enhancements delivered by the new 48-port Inline Power 10/100BaseT Ethernet switching module. These modules introduce the following new features for campus multiservice networking: inline power, phone discovery, auxiliary virtual LANs (VLANs).
